Success in American Culture is measured in monetary gain. In American Culture, successful designs are easily understood. Successful designs are simple and straightforward. Successful designs require no contemplation. Successful designs make sense and are forgettable. American Culture is not a comforting incubator for the creation of the New Designer. Not all Design should be commercially viable, or easily comprehended, or straightforward in message. So where does this leave the New Designer? If they're not Designing for the majority of the American Public, are they just Designing for other New Designers? Outside of the field of Design, very few people (a minority of the American Populace) will ever truly understand what the New Designer does or is capable of doing. Design, however, is not an esoteric field - an incomprehensible secret society.
