The philosophy of the design "-ism" burns faster than it can be fueled. This is why so many design "-isms" rarely last for very long. There is a point when the underlying motive behind the philosophy cannot sustain the growth of the philosophy. There is also a point when the torch of a design "-ism" is passed to a younger generation who do not understand or appreciate the intricacies of the beginnings. Design like all branches of art is in a constant state of redefinition and reinvention. But to approach that redefinition with an "-ism" in mind will seriously degrade the strength of the definition from the outset. No one "-ism" can begin to cover everything that design can be. |
