Perhaps one of the most important design tools, regardless of aesthetic, is focus. Can you remain focused on what you are designing, or are you easily distracted? Distraction is the largest detriment and, paradoxically, the greatest help to design focus. Focus will only get you so far, and then your brain should, or rather must break from the task, reassess objectivity and recharge. Focus will push you until the end of the design process, but, in and of itself, it creates an emotional attachment to what you are doing. You must distract and detach yourself so that the design benefits. Design will suffer from an over-focused tunnel vision.
