Anonymous   Why don't we still use this stuff??

    14.11.03 -  23:27

Using pieces scavenged from my grandmother's house, I created an entire sound system built around an eight-track player. Record player ("turn table" to you youngsters), four speakers in faux-wood boxes, and then snuck my tape/cd player into an audio-in opening. It's so much fun to work this system that takes all these mechanical actions... giant switches to move, records to flip, arms that swing into place, eight-tracks that pop in, program buttons to push. Ok, so the eight-track needs some work, but aside from that, it's great! Sound is good, actually less quality, but more character.

So why do we scorn technology if it's more than two years old? I desperately want an iPod, but I think I would miss getting to look at pictures on the disks as I flip through to pick an album. Getting to go through the motion of choosing and then putting something into a player.

The Doors on record, baby. Light My Fire takes up half of one side.

Chime in with your favorite "obsolete" items. I'll start you off with:

    1. Watches with hands.
