a week long craving for home-made chili took me to the grocery store for my first attempt to cook it. gathering the things that i needed, i headed for the check out counter. after surveying the lines, i get behind a woman, about my mother's age, with a cart full. i figure that she'll unload, the cashier's pretty quick, and i'll be able to get out of here quick. next thing i know, she's saying something to the cashier, who is coming around the counter to unload the lady's cart for her. yes, she was sure able to load it up and push it on her own, but she now needs a stool to sit on. being the upstanding young woman that i am, and wanting to expediate the process, i help the cashier unload the basket. this was purely selfish, i will admit, but the least the woman whose cart i am unloading could do was say "thank you." did she? no, but she continued to be rude to the cashier and the clerk who was sacking her groceries. and she never once said thank you. that just astounds me. i mean, i thank the waiter everytime they bring me something. does it not seem strange that people come to expect other people to bow to their will? or do i expect too much from people? |
