I can't believe that children are born as a blank state. That's like saying that the only way that humans can express themselves is through language, and until we possess some form of language we don't have any form of expression. One of the first things that a baby does, usually, is cries. Now I won't try to place any preconceived notions on this cry, but I can postulate.

"It sure is cold here, what happened to that warm squishy cave I was in?"

"Hooray, there's a lot more room to move around now."

"I'm jonesin' for some crack right now."

Now these are only guesses, but I'm willing to believe that babies have thoughts even if they can't be expressed in any way that we can comprehend.
